Chapter 8 - The Grandparents' Rights Lawsuit
The true legal battle began two weeks later.
Liam was served with court papers at his office. Eleanor had hired a sleazy, aggressive family lawyer and filed a petition for "Grandparents' Rights." She was suing for mandatory, unsupervised visitation with Leo, claiming that Liam and Maya were unfit parents who were isolating the child.
When Liam read the petition, he felt a surge of pure, unfiltered rage.
“She claims Maya is experiencing postpartum psychosis,” Marcus Vance explained, sitting across from Liam and Maya in the secure apartment. “She’s arguing that Maya’s collapse was a psychiatric episode, not a physical one, and that you are blindly enabling a dangerous environment.”
Maya shook her head, terrified. “Can she win? Can a judge force us to hand our baby over to that woman?”
“Not a chance in hell,” Arthur spoke up from the kitchen, where he was washing bottles. He walked over, his face hardened. “Eleanor is overplaying her hand. She thrives in the shadows, where her whispers and guilt trips work. The courtroom is bright. It relies on facts.”

“Your father is right,” Marcus agreed. “To win grandparents' rights in this state, she has to prove that severing the relationship causes demonstrable harm to the child. Leo is a newborn. He doesn’t even know who she is. Furthermore, we are going to counter-sue for a permanent order of protection.”
Liam looked at his wife, who was trembling, and pulled her into his arms. “We fight. We drag all of her ugly secrets out into the light. We are going to bury her in the truth.”
