Chapter 14 - The Final Defense Strategy

My father was incredibly desperate as the trial rapidly slipped completely out of his control.
Against the strong advice of his public defender, he demanded to take the stand in his own defense.
He believed he could charm the jury just like he used to charm his wealthy investors.
He sat in the witness box and immediately began playing the role of the innocent, targeted victim.
"I built this town with my own two hands! I provided jobs and homes for thousands of people!" he declared loudly.
He attempted to shift the entire blame onto his former business partners, claiming he was entirely oblivious to the fraud.
Sarah, the prosecutor, slowly walked up to the podium holding a single piece of paper.
"Mr. Vance, do you recognize this email you sent directly to your Cayman Islands banker?" she asked smoothly.
She displayed the email on the massive projector screen for the entire courtroom to read.
The email explicitly detailed exactly how to hide three million dollars from an upcoming IRS audit.
My father stammered, sweating profusely under the bright courtroom lights.
"That... that document is a complete forgery created by my unstable daughter!" he yelled frantically.
Sarah smiled coldly and informed him that the server logs had been independently verified by federal cyber experts.
He was caught in an absolute, undeniable lie while under sworn oath.

The judge glared at him with profound disgust, completely seeing through his pathetic charade.
Thomas Vance was finally drowning in the massive ocean of lies he had created.
