Chapter 8 - The Desperate Husband

Julian was completely losing his mind as his perfect, privileged world collapsed around him.

His phone was ringing non-stop with death threats from angry strangers on the internet.

He could not even leave his penthouse without reporters shoving microphones into his face.

He realized that his father could no longer protect him from the massive consequences.

In a moment of pure, selfish desperation, Julian managed to track down my new unlisted phone number.

When my phone rang, I almost ignored it, but I wanted to hear the absolute defeat in his voice.

"Clara, please, you have to tell the media that the video was taken out of context!" he begged frantically.

I actually laughed out loud at the sheer absurdity of his pathetic request.

"How exactly do you take a grown man punching a woman in the face out of context, Julian?" I asked.

He started crying, genuine tears of panic streaming down his face as he paced his empty living room.

He claimed that he loved me and that he was just too afraid of his father to intervene.

He promised that if I stopped the lawsuits, we could run away together and start over.

I listened to his pathetic whining, realizing how incredibly weak he had always been.

"You didn't love me, Julian; you just loved having someone to absorb your father's abuse so you wouldn't have to," I replied coldly.

I told him that I was going to take absolutely everything he owned in the divorce.

I promised him that he would be entirely bankrupt before the end of the year.

I hung up the phone and permanently blocked his new number, feeling incredibly light and free.
