Chapter 20 - The Final Toast

It was the five-year anniversary of the night I walked out of the retirement banquet.
I was hosting a massive charity gala of my own, raising millions of dollars for domestic violence survivors.
The ballroom was absolutely stunning, filled with beautiful music, incredible food, and wonderful people.
I stood at the top of the grand staircase, wearing a breathtaking silver gown that sparkled under the lights.
A waiter walked by carrying a silver tray full of vintage, expensive champagne flutes.
I reached out and picked up a glass, holding it firmly in my steady hand.
I walked down the stairs, completely confident, and stepped up to the microphone on the main stage.
The entire room fell completely silent, giving me their absolute, undivided attention.
I did not talk about the Sterling family, because they no longer mattered to my story.
I spoke about the incredible power of resilience, the importance of fighting back, and the beauty of starting over.
I raised my glass high in the air, looking out at the crowd of people who truly respected me.
"To the absolute strength it takes to walk away, and the absolute joy of never looking back," I announced loudly.
The entire room erupted in massive, thunderous applause, raising their glasses to join my toast.
