Chapter 3 - The Morning Shock

Julian woke up the next morning with a pounding headache from the expensive scotch.

He rolled over in his massive bed, expecting to see me crying and begging for forgiveness.

Instead, he found the cold, empty space where I used to sleep.

He stumbled out of bed and walked into his office, noticing the diamond ring on his keyboard.

A sudden wave of panic washed over him, but he quickly pushed it down with sheer arrogance.

He convinced himself that I was just throwing a childish tantrum and would return by tomorrow.

Suddenly, his cell phone began ringing frantically with a call from his father’s private line.

Julian answered it, expecting Arthur to complain about the ruined retirement party.

Instead, Arthur was screaming at the top of his lungs in absolute, unhinged terror.

"Julian, the federal authorities just froze all of our primary corporate accounts!" Arthur roared.

Julian felt the blood completely drain from his face as his knees grew weak.

He ran to his computer and desperately tried to log into their offshore Cayman Islands accounts.

The screen flashed a bright red error message stating that the funds had been seized.

Someone had handed the federal government the exact blueprints to their entire criminal enterprise.

Julian stared at the empty spot on his desk where his backup hard drive usually sat.

He remembered that I was the only person who had full administrative access to his network.

The naive, middle-class wife he had abandoned on the floor was actually the architect of their doom.

He realized with absolute horror that I had completely destroyed them overnight.
