Chapter 6 - The Sister’s Downfall

Chloe was the only one not currently sitting in a federal prison cell.

She had not been heavily involved in the corporate fraud, only in spending the stolen money.

She paced around her luxury penthouse, frantically trying to call her fiancé, Preston.

Preston finally answered the phone, but his voice was completely devoid of emotion.

He told Chloe that his father was furious and the wedding was permanently cancelled.

Chloe begged and pleaded, promising that the news was all a terrible misunderstanding.

Preston simply hung up on her and immediately blocked her number.

A loud knock echoed through her penthouse, making her jump in terror.

It was the building manager, flanked by two serious-looking security guards.

The manager handed Chloe an emergency eviction notice.

The penthouse had been rented under the Sterling corporate umbrella, which was now frozen.

Chloe was given exactly one hour to pack her belongings and vacate the premises.

She looked at her massive closet full of designer gowns and diamond jewelry.

She had no money to hire movers and her credit cards were completely dead.

She shoved whatever she could into three large suitcases, sobbing uncontrollably.

As she dragged her bags down to the lobby, the concierge refused to look at her.

She stepped out onto the cold street, completely alone for the first time in her life.

She pulled out her phone and scrolled to my contact name.

She hesitated for a moment before desperately pressing the call button.

I let it ring until it went straight to my automated voicemail.
