Chapter 19 - The Final Visit

On the fifth anniversary of their arrest, I decided to visit the women’s prison.

I sat in the sterile visitation room, separated by a thick pane of bulletproof glass.

Victoria walked into the room wearing a faded gray jumpsuit, her hair completely gray and unkempt.

She picked up the plastic telephone receiver, her hands shaking slightly.

She looked at my designer clothes and my confident posture with deep, bitter envy.

She asked me why I had come, spitting the words out with venom.

I told her that I had just finalized the sale of the final piece of the Sterling estate.

I wanted her to know that there was absolutely nothing left of the empire she worshipped.

I wanted to look her in the eyes and show her the woman she failed to break.

Victoria glared at me, refusing to apologize or show even a hint of remorse.

She told me that I was a cold, ruthless monster who had destroyed her own family.

I smiled softly, feeling a wave of absolute peace wash over my soul.

I replied that I was simply the exact monster she had trained me to be.

I hung up the plastic phone receiver before she could utter another word.

I stood up, smoothed out my jacket, and walked out of the visitation room.

I left her trapped in her glass cage with nothing but her own miserable thoughts.

I stepped out of the prison gates and into the warm, bright sunlight.
