Chapter 17 - Chloe’s Return

I was leaving a charity gala late one evening when I heard someone call my name.
I turned around and saw a tired-looking woman standing near the valet station.
It took me a few seconds to recognize my younger sister, Chloe.
She looked entirely different from the arrogant socialite she used to be.
She was wearing a cheap uniform from a local chain restaurant and looked exhausted.
She walked up to me hesitantly, her eyes fixed firmly on the ground.
She did not ask for money, and she did not ask for a favor.
She simply looked up at me and quietly said that she was incredibly sorry.
She told me that she had been working double shifts as a waitress for the past year.
She said she finally understood how hard it was to survive in the real world.
She admitted that she had been a terrible sister and a spoiled, cruel person.
I looked into her eyes and saw genuine humility for the very first time.
I did not offer her a hug, but I did hand her my platinum business card.
I told her that the data entry position at my firm was still open if she wanted it.
I warned her that I would treat her exactly like any other employee, with zero special favors.
Chloe nodded eagerly, tears welling up in her eyes as she clutched the card tightly.

She thanked me profusely and walked away into the dark night.
She showed up at my office the next morning at exactly six o'clock.
