The heavy oak doors closed behind me with a quiet, final click.
I left my designer coat on the rack because I wanted nothing that their money had bought.
The freezing New York air hit my bare arms, but the cold felt incredibly refreshing.
I climbed into my own car, a modest sedan I had bought with my hidden corporate salary.

I hung up and immediately dialed the second number.
This call was to the lead investigator at the Securities and Exchange Commission.
I told him that the flash drive he had been waiting for was securely uploaded to the cloud.
He thanked me and said his agents were already moving into position.
I started the engine and drove slowly down the long, winding driveway.
I looked in the rearview mirror and saw the mansion glowing with arrogant warmth.
