Chapter 7 - The Ambush

I was loading the last few boxes into my car when a familiar, sleek black SUV screeched to a halt in my driveway.

Clara jumped out of the driver's seat, her face red and contorted in absolute, unhinged fury.

She had obviously driven by and seen the massive "Sold" sticker slapped across the real estate sign.

"What the hell are you doing?!" Clara screamed, marching aggressively up the driveway toward me.

I calmly placed a box of fragile china into the trunk and closed the lid with a soft click.

"I am moving, Clara," I stated simply, turning to face her without a single flinch.

"You can't sell this house, it is my childhood home!" she shrieked, waving her arms hysterically.

"It is my house, and I can do whatever I please with it," I corrected her, keeping my voice perfectly level.

"Where is the money going?" she demanded, her eyes wide with greedy, absolute panic.

"David said you cut off the credit cards, and now you are selling a two-million-dollar house without telling me?"

"I don't have to tell you anything, Clara, because you are no longer a part of my life."

"You are just throwing a massive tantrum because I slapped you!" she yelled, trying to minimize her horrific actions.

"No, I am completely excising a toxic tumor from my life," I replied coldly.

She took a threatening step forward, raising her hand exactly like she had on Christmas Eve.

But this time, I was completely ready for her.

I pulled a small canister of police-grade pepper spray from my coat pocket and aimed it directly at her face.

"Take one more step, and I will blind you," I warned, my tone absolutely deadly.

Clara froze in her tracks, her mouth dropping open in sheer disbelief.
