Chapter 19 - The Complete Eradication

Five years had passed since the terrible Christmas Eve incident that changed my life.
I was sitting in my lawyer's office, reviewing my final estate documents to ensure everything was perfectly aligned.
"Margaret, I have to ask you a standard, legal protocol question," Richard Harrison said gently.
"In the event of your passing, if Clara attempts to contest this will, how would you like us to proceed?"
I smiled, completely unbothered by the mere mention of her name.
"I have already recorded a highly detailed, legally binding video deposition for that exact scenario," I explained confidently.
"In the video, I explicitly state that I am completely of sound mind, and that she is intentionally excluded due to her history of physical assault."
"I also mandated that if she contests the will, the estate is authorized to spend every single penny fighting her in court until there is absolutely nothing left."
Richard chuckled, shaking his head in deep, professional admiration.
"You have built an absolute, impenetrable legal fortress, Margaret," he praised me.
"She will never, ever get a single dime of this money."
I walked out of the law office feeling a profound, absolute sense of finality.
I had completely erased her from my past, my present, and my eternal future.
She was nothing more than a cautionary tale I occasionally remembered.

The bruise on my face had faded years ago, and the massive bruise on my soul had completely healed along with it.
I was entirely, beautifully whole again.
