Chapter 9 - The Final Court Battle

The divorce proceedings were the fastest in the state's history.

Because Marcus had no money to hire a defense attorney, he was assigned a public defender.

I walked into the courtroom wearing a flawless white suit, projecting absolute power and grace.

Marcus sat at the defense table, looking like a broken, defeated shell of a man.

My attorney presented the undeniable evidence of embezzlement, adultery, and child abuse.

The judge watched the video of Eleanor and Marcus abusing Lucas, and his face turned bright red with anger.

“Mr. Sterling, your behavior is the most despicable I have seen in my entire career,” the judge stated furiously.

“I am granting full, sole custody of Lucas to his mother, with zero visitation rights for you or your family.”

Marcus hung his head, silent tears dripping onto the wooden table.

“Furthermore, due to the extensive corporate fraud, I am ordering you to pay full restitution to the Clara Sterling Trust.”

Because Marcus could not pay the millions he had stolen, the criminal charges proceeded immediately.

He was handcuffed right there in the courtroom and escorted away to a state penitentiary.

He would be spending the next seven years in a tiny concrete cell, wearing an orange jumpsuit.

Eleanor was forced to move into a tiny, low-income apartment, entirely cut off from her wealthy friends.

They had tried to make my son crawl, but in the end, they were the ones crushed into the dirt.
