Chapter 10 - A Beautiful Ending

A year has passed since the day I threw the garbage out of my house.
Today is a beautiful, sunny Saturday, and we are celebrating Lucas’s sixth birthday.
The backyard is filled with colorful balloons, a massive bouncy castle, and all of his school friends.
Lucas is running across the green grass, wearing a bright red superhero cape, laughing loudly.
He is no longer the terrified, trembling boy in the dirty pajamas.
He is confident, brilliant, and completely surrounded by people who adore him.
I am sitting on the patio, sipping a glass of iced tea and watching him shine.
My business has tripled in value, and I have never felt more powerful or more at peace.
A handsome, kind man named Daniel sits down next to me, handing me a fresh slice of cake.
Daniel is a pediatrician who loves Lucas as if he were his own flesh and blood.
He never raises his voice, and he treats us both like absolute royalty.
“He looks incredibly happy today, Clara,” Daniel smiles, wrapping an arm around my waist.
“He is happy because he knows he is safe,” I reply, leaning my head on his shoulder.
I look around my beautiful home, my fortress of love and protection.
Marcus and his cruel family are nothing but a distant, faded nightmare.

I protected my child, I claimed my power, and I won the ultimate victory.
We are finally exactly where we belong.
