Chapter 3 - The Camera's Truth

After drawing a warm, bubbly bath for Lucas, I sat him at the kitchen island with a plate of fresh cookies.

He was finally smiling again, the terror slowly leaving his innocent eyes.

“Momma, are the bad people coming back?” he asked softly, biting into a chocolate chip.

“No, baby, they are never coming back,” I promised, kissing his forehead.

While he ate, I opened my laptop and accessed the cloud storage for the living room camera.

I needed to see exactly what had happened while I was away at my corporate retreat.

I clicked on the footage from the previous afternoon, my stomach tying itself into knots.

The video showed Eleanor slapping a toy out of Lucas’s hands because it was “too noisy” for her precious Julian.

It showed Vanessa eating the special snacks I had prepared for my son, laughing as Lucas cried.

But the worst part was Marcus.

My husband had watched the two women bully his five-year-old child and had done absolutely nothing to stop it.

Instead, he had poured himself a drink and told Lucas to stop being a weak nuisance.

Tears of pure, unadulterated rage streamed down my face as I saved every single video file.

I created three backup copies and sent a secure folder directly to my corporate attorney.

I was not just going to divorce Marcus Sterling.

I was going to systematically destroy his entire life.

I picked up my phone and dialed the number for the bank that managed his startup company.

Because he never read the fine print, he didn't realize I was the primary guarantor on his business loans.

“Yes, this is Clara Sterling,” I said when the bank manager answered.

“I need to freeze all credit lines associated with Marcus Sterling's accounts immediately.”
