Chapter 7 - The Mistress Flees

Vanessa had always loved the luxury lifestyle Marcus provided.
She loved the expensive dinners, the designer bags, and the promises of a wealthy future.
But Vanessa was not built for poverty, and she certainly was not built for struggle.
By Friday, Marcus was living in a cheap, rundown motel on the outskirts of the city.
His credit cards were canceled, his bank accounts were frozen, and his company was gone.
I hired a private investigator to keep an eye on them, just to ensure they never came near Lucas again.
The investigator sent me a live video feed from the motel parking lot.
Vanessa was furiously packing her suitcases into the trunk of a cheap rental car.
Marcus was standing in the rain, begging her to stay.
“Vanessa, please, I will get the money back!” Marcus cried, holding his hands out desperately.
“My lawyer says I can fight Clara in court!”
Vanessa laughed in his face, holding baby Julian tightly in her arms.
“You have no money for a lawyer, Marcus, you are completely broke.”
“I didn't sign up to live in a roach-infested motel with a loser.”
She slammed the trunk shut and got into the driver's seat.
Marcus hit the window, pleading and sobbing like a pathetic child.
Vanessa simply rolled her eyes, put the car in drive, and sped out of the parking lot.

She left Marcus standing completely alone in the pouring rain, with absolutely nothing left to his name.
He had abandoned his true family for a fantasy, and the fantasy had just driven away.
