Chapter 2 - The White Room

I woke up to the harsh, blinding glare of fluorescent hospital lights.

The rhythmic beeping of a heart monitor echoed in my ears like a ticking clock.

I immediately grabbed my swollen stomach, my heart pounding in sheer terror.

A kind-faced nurse rushed to my side, gently placing her hand over mine.

"You are safe now, honey," she whispered softly.

"The baby is in distress, but the heartbeat is currently stable."

Tears of immense relief flooded my eyes and spilled onto my pale cheeks.

"Where is my husband?" I asked, my voice cracking with desperation.

The nurse looked away, her expression shifting to one of deep pity.

Before she could answer, the door to my hospital room swung open.

Beatrice strutted inside, wearing an expensive black dress and holding a fake bouquet of flowers.

"Get out of my room," I demanded, trying to sit up despite the burning pain on my abdomen.

"I just came to deliver the bad news, sister-in-law," Beatrice laughed coldly.

"Julian has been denied bail because my video proved he is a violent monster."

"He is facing years in federal prison for attempted murder."

I felt the air leave my lungs as the horrifying reality set in.

"You know your mother poured that boiling tea on me first!" I yelled.

"The police only saw what I wanted them to see on the live stream," she smirked.

She tossed the cheap flowers onto the foot of my hospital bed.

"When that baby is born, Julian will be locked behind bars."
