Chapter 1 - The Arrest

The detectives did not hesitate for a single second.
They lunged toward Julian, aggressively pinning his arms behind his back.
"Julian!" I screamed, the searing pain in my stomach momentarily forgotten.
He didn't fight them.
His panicked eyes remained fixed entirely on my trembling body.
"Call an ambulance!" he roared at the officers.
"My wife is pregnant and she is severely burned!"
Eleanor lay groaning on the floor, blood pooling beneath her designer blonde hair.
Beatrice held her phone high, capturing every second of the chaos for the world to see.
"You just assaulted my mother on a live broadcast, Julian," Beatrice sneered.
"Millions of people are watching you ruin your own life."
The taller detective violently clicked the heavy metal handcuffs around Julian's wrists.
"You have the right to remain silent," the officer droned, completely ignoring my husband's pleas.
I tried to crawl toward Julian, but the agony was absolutely blinding.
The scalding tea had soaked deeply through my maternity dress, blistering my skin.
Suddenly, a warm, terrifying dampness spread down my legs.
"The baby," I whimpered, the room spinning into a blurry, terrifying haze.
Julian thrashed wildly against the detectives.
"Please, you have to let me go to her!" he begged.

But they dragged him out the heavy oak doors without a shred of mercy.
The very last thing I saw before passing out was Beatrice’s triumphant, wicked smile.
