Chapter 15 - The Jealousy

By the next morning, Grace had officially moved into the lavish Estate Manager’s office on the second floor.
The room was larger than the entire apartment she shared with her sick younger brother.
It featured floor-to-ceiling mahogany bookshelves, a sprawling glass desk, and large French windows overlooking the sculpted gardens.
Grace sat behind the massive desk, her fingers gently touching the smooth, polished wood in absolute disbelief.
Her new employment contract lay open before her, guaranteeing a salary that would instantly solve every financial crisis in her life.
She had already called the hospital administrator at dawn to ensure Leo’s medications would continue without interruption.
For the very first time in four agonizing years, Grace felt like she could finally take a full, deep breath of clean air.
However, beneath the surface of the grand estate, a toxic poison was quietly brewing among the household staff.
Not everyone was willing to accept the sudden, meteoric rise of a lowly maid who used to scrub the toilets.
Thomas Bradley, the senior head butler who had worked at Whitmore House for nearly a decade, was consumed by a bitter, burning rage.
Thomas was fifty-two years old, meticulously dressed in a black tailcoat, and believed domestic service was an art reserved only for the elite.
He had served royal families in Europe and spent years kissing Mrs. Gable's feet, all with the singular goal of taking over the estate manager position.
To see a twenty-eight-year-old girl in a faded gray uniform handed the keys to the kingdom felt like a direct, unforgivable insult to his pride.
"She is nothing but a street rat who got lucky with a piece of fruit," Thomas hissed under his breath as he polished silver in the pantry.
He pulled a cheap, burner smartphone from his breast pocket and looked around to ensure the other footmen were not watching.
He quickly dialed a number that was no longer registered on the estate’s official directory.
The phone rang twice before the harsh, raspy voice of the disgraced former housekeeper answered.
"Did you find a way to get rid of her yet, Thomas?" Mrs. Gable demanded sharply from the other end of the line.
She was currently sitting in a cheap, moldy motel room near the highway, her life and reputation completely destroyed by Adrian Whitmore.
"Not yet, but the entire house is on edge," Thomas whispered urgently, keeping his eyes glued to the pantry doorway.
"The billionaire is returning this Friday evening for an executive dinner with three foreign investors."
"That gives us forty-eight hours to execute a plan," Mrs. Gable replied, her tone dripping with venomous calculation.
"Adrian Whitmore can forgive a mistake in judgment, but he has zero tolerance for thieves."
"If that girl is caught red-handed stealing something priceless from his private quarters, he will throw her in federal prison without a second thought."
Thomas smiled, a cruel, wicked glint appearing in his cold eyes.

"Leave the details to me, Mrs. Gable," Thomas promised softly.
"By the end of this weekend, the little maid will be behind bars, and the manager’s office will finally be mine."
