Chapter 9 - HEALING SCARS

The transition wasn't perfectly easy.

Six years of trauma couldn't be erased overnight.

Eleanor had to undergo intensive physical therapy to regain her strength.

She also required multiple skin graft surgeries for the burns she sustained in the orchestrated car crash.

But she never once complained.

She was just so incredibly grateful to see the sun again.

Clara, too, needed time to adjust to her new reality.

She was no longer the hidden, frightened orphan in the basement.

She was the beloved heiress of the Sterling family.

Julian hired the best child psychologists to help her process the fear Martha had instilled in her.

Slowly, the timid little girl began to blossom.

Her quiet sketches turned into vibrant paintings that covered the refrigerator.

Her polite, terrified whispers turned into loud, echoing laughter that filled the massive hallways.

One afternoon, Julian found Eleanor sitting in the greenhouse.

She was watching Clara chase a butterfly through the blooming orchids.

Julian wrapped his arms around his wife from behind, kissing her neck.

“You look beautiful,” he murmured.

Eleanor touched the scars on her face self-consciously.

“Even with these?” she asked softly.

Julian turned her around, looking deep into her eyes.

“These scars just prove that you are a survivor,” he told her fiercely.

“They are the most beautiful part of you, because they mean you fought your way back to me.”

Eleanor smiled, a genuine, radiant smile that reached her eyes.

She rested her head against his chest, listening to the steady, strong beat of his heart.
