Chapter 2 - INFILTRATING THE ASYLUM

The flight took exactly twelve agonizing minutes.

To Julian, it felt like a lifetime of torture.

He kept his eyes glued to the screen, watching Marcus pace around Eleanor’s bed.

The helicopter banked sharply, descending toward a crumbling stone building surrounded by dead trees.

It was an abandoned asylum, a place forgotten by the world.

Perfect for a billionaire trying to hide his darkest sins.

The chopper didn't even touch the ground before Julian leapt from the skids.

Vance and four heavily armed security personnel followed right behind him.

The heavy iron gates of the facility were padlocked.

Vance didn't hesitate; he aimed his shotgun and blew the lock to pieces.

They kicked the gates open and stormed the courtyard.

Two armed mercenaries in unmarked uniforms stepped out from the shadows.

Before they could even raise their rifles, Vance’s team neutralized them with non-lethal tasers.

“No noise,” Julian ordered in a harsh whisper.

“We don't want Marcus to know we are here until I have my hands on his throat.”

They moved through the dark, damp corridors of the asylum.

The smell of mold and strong antiseptics burned Julian’s nose.

He glanced at the tablet; the room number on the door in the video feed was 402.

“Fourth floor,” Vance signaled, pointing toward a rusted stairwell.

They ascended the stairs silently, their tactical boots making no sound on the concrete.

Julian’s heart hammered against his ribs like a war drum.

With every step, memories of Eleanor flooded his mind.

Her laugh.

The way she looked at him.

The sheer joy on her face when she told him she was pregnant.

Marcus had stolen all of it for money and power.

They reached the fourth floor landing.

A single mercenary stood guard outside room 402.

Julian didn't wait for his security team.

He surged forward, catching the guard completely off guard.

Julian slammed the butt of his pistol into the man’s jaw.

The guard crumpled to the floor instantly.

Julian stood before the heavy steel door.

He could hear his brother’s muffled voice from the other side.

He took a deep breath, raised his weapon, and kicked the door open with all his might.
