Chapter 4 - THE AWAKENING

Julian walked toward the hospital bed on trembling legs.

He dropped to his knees beside her, ignoring the pain in his shoulder.

She was so thin, her beautiful face marred by terrible burn scars.

Her silver hair was fanned out across the thin, cheap pillow.

But it was her.

It was really his Eleanor.

“Elly,” he whispered, his voice breaking into a sob.

He reached out and gently took her fragile hand in his.

Her skin was ice cold.

“We need a medic in here right now!” Julian shouted over his shoulder.

Dr. Thorne, who had flown in on a second chopper, rushed into the room.

He immediately began checking Eleanor’s vitals and examining the IV drips.

“She’s heavily sedated, Julian,” Dr. Thorne said, his face grave.

“They’ve been keeping her in a medically induced coma to prevent her from escaping or calling for help.”

“Can she be moved?” Julian asked, his eyes never leaving his wife’s face.

“Yes, but we need to transport her to your private medical wing immediately.”

Julian nodded, refusing to let go of her hand.

Paramedics rushed into the room with a mobile stretcher.

They carefully transferred Eleanor from the filthy bed.

Julian walked beside her the entire way down the corridors.

As they passed Marcus, who was now handcuffed and bleeding heavily, Julian didn't even blink.

“You’re going to rot in hell,” Julian stated plainly.

They loaded Eleanor into the medical transport helicopter.

The flight back to the estate felt like a surreal dream.

Julian held her hand the entire time, whispering promises of safety.

When they landed on the estate lawn, Clara was waiting on the porch.

The little girl watched in awe as the medics wheeled the stretcher inside.

Julian knelt beside his daughter.

“Is that my mommy?” Clara asked, her voice filled with wonder.

“Yes, sweetheart,” Julian cried, hugging her tight.

“That is your mommy, and she is finally home.”
