Chapter 7 - TEARS OF REUNION

Julian sprinted through the halls of his estate, ignoring the concerned looks of his staff.

He threw open the doors to the medical wing.

Eleanor was sitting up slightly, her eyes fluttering open.

Clara was standing by the bed, holding a small stuffed bear, staring with wide, hopeful eyes.

Julian froze at the doorway.

Eleanor turned her head slowly.

Her beautiful, tired eyes locked onto his.

Tears immediately spilled down her scarred cheeks.

“Julian,” she rasped, her voice dry and unused.

Julian rushed forward and fell to his knees beside the bed.

He buried his face in her hands, weeping like a child.

“I’m here, my love, I’m here,” he cried.

“I thought I lost you. I thought you were gone forever.”

Eleanor stroked his hair, her fingers trembling.

“He told me you were dead,” she whispered, crying openly.

“Marcus told me he killed you in the crash, and that my baby didn't make it.”

Julian looked up, his face stained with tears.

“He lied, Elly. He lied about everything.”

Julian turned and gently pulled Clara forward.

“Look who is here,” Julian said softly.

Eleanor gasped, her hands flying to her mouth.

She stared at the little girl, tracing the features that were so much like her own.

“Clara?” Eleanor breathed out, unable to believe her eyes.

Clara stepped closer, her little lip quivering.

“Are you really my mommy?”

Eleanor reached out, pulling the little girl into a desperate, clinging hug.

“Yes, my sweet girl. Yes, I am.”

The three of them held each other, crying years of stolen grief and newly found joy into each other’s shoulders.

The nightmare was finally over.
