Chapter 11 - The Clean Up

The aftermath was swift and ruthlessly efficient.

Within minutes, Julian’s elite security team flooded the house. Two massive enforcers dragged the unconscious, bleeding Marcus Thorne out of the nursery and into the back of a black van. He was no longer a threat; he was a ghost, destined for a very deep, very dark hole where the Romano syndicate buried its mistakes.

Julian refused to let the medical staff touch Clara. He carried her to his own master suite, laying her gently on the plush velvet bed. He retrieved a first-aid kit, his large, calloused hands trembling slightly as he cleaned the cut on her lip and applied an ice pack to her cheek.

Mia was safe, currently sleeping soundly in the arms of the head of security downstairs.

"I should have known Vanessa would do something like this," Julian muttered, pacing the room, his white button-down shirt stained with Marcus’s blood. "I should have put a bullet in her when I had the chance."

"Julian, stop," Clara said softly, sitting up on the edge of the bed. "You couldn't have known."

Julian stopped pacing and looked at her, his expression tortured. "I promised to protect you, Clara. And he still touched you. He still hurt you."

Clara stood up, walking slowly toward him. She reached out, placing her hands on his broad chest, feeling the frantic, heavy beating of his heart.

"He touched me, but you saved me," Clara whispered, looking deep into his eyes. "You gave me the strength to fight back, Julian. For three years, I lived in pure terror. Today, I fought the monster, and I won. Because I knew you were coming for me."

Julian let out a ragged breath, completely disarmed by her strength. He wrapped his arms tightly around her waist, pulling her flush against him, burying his face in her hair.

"I will always come for you," Julian vowed fiercely. "Always."

He pulled back just enough to look at her lips. The tension that had been building between them for weeks finally snapped. Julian kissed her, desperate and consuming, pouring all his fear, his relief, and his undeniable love into her.
