Chapter 13 - The Mask Slips

Realizing the police were seconds away, Beatrice’s demeanor snapped. The aristocratic lady vanished entirely.

“You think you’ve won?” she spat, pacing like a caged animal. “I gave you life, Daniel! You owe me everything! I should have gotten rid of her the day you met her!”

“You’re sick, Beatrice,” Daniel said quietly. “And you’re going away for a very long time.”

The front door burst open as the police breached the lock code Daniel had provided to the dispatcher. Five officers flooded the living room, weapons drawn. Beatrice dropped the crowbar, finally realizing there was no escaping this.

As they handcuffed her, she didn't look at Daniel. She glared at Sarah.

“I’ll never stop,” she whispered.

“Yes, you will,” Sarah replied, her voice steady. “Because you’re nothing but a pathetic, lonely old woman. And Lucas will never even remember your name.”
