Chapter 12 - The Confrontation

Beatrice shielded her eyes, gasping in shock as her vision adjusted. Daniel and Sarah were standing at the top of the stairs. Daniel was holding a baseball bat; Sarah was holding her phone, recording the entire thing.
“Hello, Mother,” Daniel said, his voice ringing with absolute authority.
Beatrice panicked. She raised the crowbar, her face twisting into a mask of pure, unadulterated hatred. “Give me the drive, Daniel! Give it to me! I won’t let this little tramp steal you from me!”
“You did this to yourself,” Sarah said coldly, pressing a button on a remote. The smart locks on the front and back doors engaged simultaneously, locking Beatrice inside.

Sirens began wailing in the distance. Daniel had triggered the silent panic alarm the moment she cut the glass.
Beatrice screamed, charging toward the staircase, but Daniel didn't flinch. He stood his ground, staring down the woman who had terrorized his family. She stopped at the bottom of the stairs, realizing she was utterly trapped.
