Chapter 7 - The Anonymous Threat

Julian immediately filed a missing persons report, playing the frantic husband for the local news cameras.
He stood on our pristine front lawn, pleading for my safe return, squeezing fake tears from his eyes.
I watched the broadcast on the safehouse television, eating a sandwich and feeling absolutely nothing for him.
It was time to make my first offensive move.
I opened a secure, encrypted email server on the laptop Elena had provided.
I sent a single audio file to Julian’s private business email address.
It was a ten-second clip of his own voice, whispering, "No one is going to save you."
I did not include any text, any demands, or any explanations.
I just wanted him to hear the ghost of his own murderous cruelty echoing in his empty office.
Ten minutes later, my tracking software showed that he had opened the email.
I imagined the blood draining from his arrogant face as he realized his fatal mistake.
He finally knew that I had survived with my memory intact, and that I held the ultimate weapon.
His phone records, which Elena had successfully hacked, showed him frantically calling his criminal associates.
He was scrambling to find the source of the leak, completely panicked and losing his grip on reality.
He thought he was hunting a helpless, battered wife.

He didn't realize he was actually being hunted by a mother with absolutely nothing left to lose.
The empire of lies he had built was beginning to crack under the immense pressure.
