Chapter 19 - A New Breath

Five years passed, completely erasing the nightmare of Julian from my daily thoughts.
It was Lily’s fifth birthday, and my backyard was filled with balloons, laughter, and incredible friends.
Elena was there, chasing Lily around the grass with a brightly colored water gun.
I stood on the patio, holding a glass of iced tea, watching my daughter experience pure, unadulterated joy.
She was completely innocent, incredibly happy, and absolutely safe.
A handsome, kind-hearted man named David walked up behind me and gently wrapped his arms around my waist.
David was a local pediatrician who knew my entire story and loved me fiercely because of my strength.
He never raised his voice, he never checked my phone, and he always made me feel profoundly safe.
He kissed my cheek, watching Lily laugh as she popped a large soap bubble.
"You built a beautiful life for her, Sam," David whispered softly into my ear.
I leaned back into his warm embrace, feeling a deep, abiding peace settle completely over my soul.
I had not just survived the darkness; I had aggressively conquered it and demanded a brilliant future.

The air in my home was never freezing anymore; it was warm, inviting, and full of life.
I took a deep, full breath of fresh air, absolutely savoring the sensation of being completely alive.
