Chapter 3 - The Silent Vow

For three agonizing days, I laid in that hospital bed, playing the role of the broken wife.

Julian barely left my side, performing his grief for the nurses and doctors with award-winning precision.

He brought me expensive flowers, stroked my hair, and spoke in hushed, loving tones.

Every time he touched me, my skin crawled with a sickening, primal revulsion.

But I endured it, knowing that my silence was my only current shield against his wrath.

My voice was slowly returning, but I continued to pretend that my vocal cords were completely useless.

I needed him to feel absolutely secure in his false victory.

On the fourth night, Julian finally left the hospital to go home and change his clothes.

As soon as the door clicked shut, I reached for the burner phone my sister had secretly smuggled in.

I typed a frantic, highly encrypted message to my closest friend, Elena.

Elena was a ruthless corporate lawyer who knew all about Julian's shady financial dealings.

I told her exactly where to find the hidden audio transmitter behind the living room bookshelf.

I gave her the passcode to my secure cloud storage where the audio files were automatically uploaded.

My instructions were absolutely clear and completely devoid of emotion.

She was to download everything, make triple backups, and keep the evidence completely hidden from the police.

I did not want Julian arrested for a simple domestic assault.

I wanted his entire empire burned to the ground, his reputation shredded, and his freedom permanently revoked.

Elena replied a minute later with a single, beautiful word: "Done."

The trap was officially set, and the bait was waiting in the shadows.
