Chapter 5 - The Public Execution

I placed the small projector directly on the crisp white tablecloth and connected it instantly to my smartphone.

"You see, Mother, you have always cared heavily about your perfect public reputation," I said loudly.

My voice carried easily over the soft jazz music, drawing the immediate attention of the surrounding diners.

"You love being the absolute queen of this pathetic little high-society world."

I pressed a single button on my phone, and the projector instantly beamed a massive, high-definition video onto the blank white wall behind our table.

The video loudly played the exact moment from the dining room, completely unedited.

The cruel laughter of her friends echoed clearly through the quiet, stunned restaurant.

Everyone in the room watched in absolute horror as my pregnant wife was treated like an animal on the floor.

My mother’s voice boomed from the speakers: "She’s only useful until the baby is born."

Gasps of pure shock erupted from the neighboring tables as the incredibly wealthy patrons recognized the woman sitting before them.

Beatrice, the woman who had thrown the bone, was ironically sitting three tables away with her own husband.

Her husband looked at the wall, then looked at his wife with a face full of sheer, unadulterated disgust.

"Liam, turn that off right now!" my mother shrieked, desperately trying to grab my phone.

I easily pulled the phone away, standing up tall to address the entire staring crowd.

"My mother likes to pretend she is a lady of high class and superior morals," I announced clearly.

"In reality, she is an abusive, cruel monster who actively starved and tortured a pregnant woman."

My mother burst into fake, dramatic tears, trying to play the ultimate victim.

"He is lying, that video is completely doctored!" she cried out pathetically to the silent room.

But absolutely no one believed her desperate, transparent lies.

The restaurant manager, a man who had kissed my mother's feet for years, stepped forward with a serious face.

"Mrs. Ashford, I am going to have to ask you to leave my establishment immediately," he demanded strictly.

She looked around the room, realizing that her pristine reputation was entirely destroyed in a matter of seconds.

She grabbed her designer purse and ran out of the restaurant, utterly humiliated in front of the only world she cared about.
