Chapter 19 - The New Basin

For our third wedding anniversary, I wanted to give Sarah a gift that symbolized our ultimate triumph over the darkness she had endured. I commissioned a master artisan in Italy to craft a massive, beautiful crystal bowl, etched with delicate vines and blooming lotus flowers—a symbol of rising beautifully from the mud.

When I presented it to her in our warm, sunlit kitchen, her eyes filled with tears, but this time, they were tears of absolute joy. “It’s breathtaking, Arthur,” she whispered, tracing the intricate glass carvings with her fingers.

“Fill it with whatever you want,” I told her, kissing her temple. “White roses, floating candles, or just let it catch the sunlight. But it is yours. Everything in this life is yours.”

That evening, she filled the crystal basin with warm water and fresh lavender, letting Lily playfully splash her tiny hands in it while she sat in her high chair. The sound of my daughter’s giggles and my wife’s bright, unrestrained laughter filled the room, completely washing away the haunting memory of the weeping I had heard in that dark, miserable marble foyer a year ago.
