Chapter 11 - The Desperate Ploy

Even from behind bars, my mother couldn't accept defeat gracefully. A week after her arrest, while awaiting her arraignment, she used her designated phone calls to contact a sleazy tabloid journalist. She attempted to launch a desperate, last-ditch PR campaign to destroy my reputation.

An article was published online claiming that I was a tyrannical, abusive son who had orchestrated a fake fraud setup to steal my mother’s rightful inheritance and cover up my wife’s supposed "mental instability." It was a pathetic, laughable attempt at character assassination, but it gained brief traction on social media.

Sarah saw the article on her iPad while pumping milk in her hospital room. She looked up at me, a fierce, protective fire in her eyes that I hadn't seen in months. “Don't let her get away with this, Arthur,” Sarah said, her voice hard. “She’s trying to make herself the victim. Show them the truth.”

I nodded. It was time to play my trump card. Julian had been arrogant enough to film the abuse on his phone, and when the FBI seized his devices, my legal team legally acquired copies of the digital evidence during the discovery phase. I had Marcus leak a redacted portion of the video to a reputable news outlet.
