The civil courts moved swiftly in my favor. With Julian’s confession and my mother’s disastrous deposition, the judge ordered the immediate seizure and liquidation of all her physical assets to repay the stolen corporate funds.
The crown jewel of her pride was the ancestral estate—the massive, sprawling mansion where she had abused Sarah. I drove up the long, winding driveway accompanied by the federal marshals and a team of high-end real estate liquidators.

The marble foyer, where I had found Sarah kneeling in dirty water, echoed with the sound of heavy boots as movers began cataloging the antique furniture, the expensive art, and the Persian rugs. I walked into the grand hallway and stared at the spot where the porcelain basin had been.
“Mr. Sterling?” the lead auctioneer asked, holding a clipboard. “Do you want to keep any of the family heirlooms? The portraits? The silver?” “Sell every single piece of it,” I ordered without a second of hesitation. “I don't want a single memory of this place surviving. Strip it to the drywall and put the property on the market.” I watched as they loaded her precious, irreplaceable treasures into moving trucks to be auctioned off to strangers. Her legacy was officially erased from the earth.
