Chapter 18 - Rebuilding the Foundation

With the trial over and the villains safely locked away, Sarah and I finally had the space to breathe and focus entirely on our future. The $4 million had been fully recovered and reinvested into secure trust funds for Lily.
We spent the summer decorating our new home. It wasn't a cold, sprawling, marble-floored estate like my mother’s house. It was a beautiful, warm, modern home surrounded by acres of lush green forests and a massive private lake. It was a place designed for laughter, for children running through the halls, and for peace.

Sarah’s physical and emotional wounds had healed remarkably well. The fear that used to linger in her eyes whenever she heard a loud noise had completely vanished. She was a natural, radiant mother. I would often come home from the corporate office—which was now running smoother and more profitably than ever before—and find her sitting on the back patio, singing softly to Lily as the sun set over the water.
We never spoke my mother’s name in our house. We never mentioned Julian. They were ghosts of a past life that had burned to ash.
