Chapter 4 - The Golden Child Falls

Three days later, the reality of my absence set in for my family.
Without me paying for the private nurse, my mother was forced to care for my father alone.
She couldn't handle the physical labor, the schedules, or the stress.
Chelsea’s husband, Mark, discovered the frozen accounts and demanded answers.
Chelsea showed up at my apartment building, bypassing the blocked calls.
She banged on my front door until I finally opened it.
Her designer clothes were wrinkled, and her perfect hair was a mess.
"You have to stop this lawsuit, Lucy!" she begged, tears streaming down her face.
"Mark is threatening to leave me because we can't pay the mortgage."
I leaned against the doorframe, feeling absolutely no pity.
"You should have thought about that before you spent my inheritance," I said coldly.
"I didn't know!" she wailed, trying to play the victim as always.
"You knew I was struggling to buy groceries for Dany while you drove a new car," I reminded her.
"You saw me drowning and you applauded."
I slowly closed the door in her face.
