Chapter 10 - A Real Family

Five years later, the sun shone brightly over the backyard of our new home.
The smell of a barbecue floated through the air, sweet and inviting.
Dany, now nine years old, was running across the lush green grass with his new puppy.
Friends, neighbors, and Aunt Colleen sat around the patio, laughing genuinely.
There was no tension, no cruel jokes, and no conditional love.
I walked out carrying a massive platter of fresh fries.
"Who wants some?" I called out with a massive smile.
Dany sprinted over, his eyes lighting up just like they had in that diner years ago.
"Me!" he shouted, grabbing a handful.
"They are all yours, buddy," I laughed, kissing the top of his head.
I looked around at the life I had built with the inheritance that was rightfully mine.
