Chapter 13 - The Hammer Falls
Judge Sterling banged his gavel with such force that it echoed like a gunshot.
“Given the overwhelming evidence of financial fraud and perjury, I am taking immediate action,” the judge declared.
He ordered all of Marcus’s remaining bank accounts to be frozen instantly.
“The ninety thousand dollars stolen from the joint account will be forcefully reimbursed to the plaintiff within forty-eight hours,” he commanded.
Marcus opened his mouth to protest, but his lawyer aggressively pulled him back down by his jacket.
“Furthermore, I am granting full legal and physical custody of the infant, Leo Vance, to the mother,” the judge continued.
Tears of absolute joy and relief streamed down my face as I hugged Sarah.
“Mr. Vance, your visitation rights are entirely suspended pending a psychological evaluation and completion of anger management,” Judge Sterling ruled.
Marcus looked completely broken, staring blankly at the polished hardwood floor.
The man who thought he owned the world had just lost everything in less than two hours.
“But I am not finished,” Judge Sterling added, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper.
“I am formally referring this case and all presented evidence to the District Attorney's office for criminal prosecution,” he announced.
A collective gasp swept through the small number of people left in the gallery.
Marcus was no longer just facing a messy divorce; he was facing serious prison time for wire fraud.
“Court is adjourned,” Judge Sterling finalized, slamming his gavel one last time.
He gave me a small, respectful nod before stepping down from the bench and disappearing into his chambers.
I picked up Leo’s car seat, feeling lighter than I had in years.
Marcus stood up, trembling with suppressed rage, blocking the aisle.
“You ruined my life,” he snarled, his fists clenched tightly at his sides.

“No, Marcus. You ruined your own life. I just provided the receipts,” I replied calmly.
