Chapter 9 - The Sister’s Betrayal

Two days later, Thomas received an urgent call from the district attorney's office. Chloe was begging for a plea deal. She wanted to turn state’s witness against her own mother.
We met the prosecutor in a small conference room.
“Chloe is terrified of prison,” the prosecutor explained, sliding a written transcript across the table. “She’s offering to testify that your mother orchestrated the entire thing, that she commanded Chloe to lock the door, and that your mother intentionally ignored the victim’s cries.”
I read the transcript. Chloe was throwing our mother under the bus to save her own skin. It was pathetic, but entirely expected.
“What does she want in return?” Thomas asked.
“She wants the felony assault charges dropped to a misdemeanor, probation, and she wants you to allow her to move back into the estate until she can find a job,” the prosecutor said, looking at me.
I let out a harsh, bitter laugh. “Absolutely not.”

“Excuse me?” the prosecutor asked.
“We have the video,” I said coldly. “We don’t need Chloe’s testimony to prove they did it. The camera proves they did it. Tell my sister that the estate is closed to her forever. If she wants to avoid prison, she can plead guilty to the felonies and throw herself on the mercy of the court. But she is never stepping foot on my property again.”
