Chapter 5 - Thomas Vance Arrives

Around 3:00 AM, the heavy doors of the ER waiting room slid open, and Thomas Vance strode in. He was a sharp, no-nonsense attorney in his late fifties, dressed in a hastily thrown-on trench coat over his pajamas, clutching a thick leather briefcase.
“Marcus,” Thomas said, shaking my hand firmly. “I got your call. I have the entire estate file right here.”
We sat in the corner of the empty cafeteria, drinking terrible machine coffee.
“I need them gone, Thomas,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper, but heavy with intent. “I don't just want them out of the house. I want them stripped of every single asset, every credit card, every vehicle that belongs to the estate. They almost killed my wife over a power trip.”
Thomas opened his briefcase and pulled out a stack of documents with heavy notary seals. “Your father knew your mother’s true nature, Marcus. That’s why, three days before your deployment, he and I restructured everything. He bypassed her completely.”
He slid the top document toward me.

“The house, the investment portfolios, and the trust funds are locked in an irrevocable trust. Elena is the primary beneficiary. You are the sole managing trustee. Your mother and sister have zero legal claim to a single dime. They’ve only been living there because Elena was too kind to kick them out.”
I stared at the signatures on the paper. My father had protected us from the grave. “Freeze the accounts, Thomas. First thing tomorrow morning. I want their cards declined by breakfast.”
