“And you treated me like a fool,” Silas continued, his finger tightening on the trigger.
“You think I care about Elena’s life after she conspired to end mine?”
Julian’s eyes widened in realization, his grip on Elena slipping just a fraction of an inch.
That fraction was all Silas needed.
He raised the shotgun and fired, aiming intentionally wide to avoid a direct headshot on his wife.
The blast shattered the marble banister right next to Julian, sending razor-sharp shrapnel into his shoulder.
Julian screamed, dropping his weapon and stumbling backward over the railing.
Elena shrieked and dropped to the floor, covering her head as gunfire erupted from the balcony.
Nadia provided suppressive fire, taking down the last two snipers hiding in the shadows of the second floor.
Julian crashed onto the hardwood floor of the main hall, gasping for air as blood soaked his shirt.
Silas walked slowly toward the bleeding boy, the heavy boots echoing like a death knell in the massive room.
He stood over Julian, looking down at the pathetic creature who had tried to steal his crown.
“You lose, Julian,” Silas whispered, pulling the remote detonator from his pocket.
“You wanted my empire? You can burn with it.”
Silas pressed the red button on the detonator.
