Chapter 1 - The Darkest Secret

Nadia leaned in, pressing her lips a millimeter from his ear.

“There’s something else you need to know,” she whispered, her words carrying a dark weight that made Silas’s lungs freeze.

“Your wife is the one who gave him the alarm codes.”

Silas felt the air leave his chest as if he had been struck by a freight train.

Elena, the woman he had loved and protected for two decades, was part of this treason.

He closed his eyes for a fraction of a second, letting the agonizing pain wash over him.

When he opened them again, the loving husband was dead, and the ruthless syndicate boss was fully resurrected.

“How do you know this?” Silas mouthed silently, his eyes locked onto his housekeeper.

Nadia shifted her grip on the suppressed pistol, her face an unreadable mask of pure lethal focus.

“Because I am not just a maid, Silas,” she breathed softly into the dark.

“I was sent here by the Castellano family to monitor your operations, but Julian just sold us all out to the Russians.”

The Castellanos were Silas’s oldest rivals, yet they always operated with a strict code of honor.

Julian bringing in the Russian mob meant he was breaking every rule of the underworld.

“If the Russians take over this territory, a bloodbath will spill into the streets of this city,” Nadia continued.

“I have my orders to stop Julian at all costs, even if it means keeping you alive to do it.”

Silas gave a slow, deliberate nod of understanding.

The enemy of his enemy was now his only lifeline in a house full of traitors.

He gently pushed Nadia’s hand away from his mouth, signaling that he was ready to move.

Through the narrow crack in the wardrobe, he watched Julian pace across the Persian rug.

“Burn the ledgers when you find them,” Julian ordered his men, his voice dripping with arrogance.

“I want all evidence of the old man’s reign reduced to ashes by dawn.”

Silas reached into his tailored coat and pulled out his own weapon, a customized tactical handgun.

He looked at Nadia, holding up three fingers.
