Chapter 5 - The Armory

Silas stepped out from behind the wine racks, the dim light catching the cold steel of his gun.

“Leaving so soon, Elena?” his voice echoed through the cellar, chilling the room instantly.

Elena screamed, stumbling backward into Julian’s arms as she stared at her husband like a ghost.

Julian immediately raised his weapon, but Silas was faster.

He shot the gun right out of Julian’s hand, the bullet shattering the boy’s fingers.

Julian collapsed to his knees, howling in agony as he clutched his bleeding hand.

“Silas, please! He forced me!” Elena begged, tears streaming down her perfectly contoured face.

“Save your lies for the devil, Elena,” Silas said, not even blinking.

Before he could pull the trigger again, the heavy metal doors of the cellar burst open.

A dozen Russian mercenaries flooded the room, their flashlights cutting through the darkness.

“Go, go, go!” Nadia shouted, laying down a relentless barrage of suppressing fire.

Vintage wine bottles exploded around them, raining red liquid down like blood as Silas and Nadia retreated.

They sprinted toward a heavy steel blast door at the back of the cellar.

Silas punched a chaotic sequence of numbers into the keypad, and the door hissed open.

They threw themselves inside just as a grenade detonated in the cellar, obliterating the wine racks.

Silas slammed his hand against the lock button, sealing the foot-thick steel door shut.

The heavy thuds of bullets pinging against the outside of the door echoed through the room.

They were finally inside the central armory, the most secure room in the entire estate.

Nadia leaned against the wall, breathing heavily, but a fierce smile played on her lips.
