Chapter 2 - The Sterling Legacy Awakens

Once the doors closed, the cold atmosphere in the room dissolved instantly. Grandfather walked to my side, his stern demeanor melting into profound gentleness as he looked through the plexiglass at Oliver and Maya. He placed a trembling, weathered hand against the incubator.
"They have the Sterling spirit, Elena," he whispered softly. "They are fighters. Just like your mother. And just like you."
Within an hour, the entire NICU was transformed. Arthur placed a call to the Chief of Medicine, and by noon, the top three neonatal specialists in the country were flown in via private jet to oversee my twins' care. A private suite was set up adjoining the NICU so I wouldn't have to leave my babies for a single second. My burnt-out, exhausted body was finally given the world-class medical attention I desperately needed after Marcus’s neglect.
While I rested on a plush hospital bed, Grandfather sat beside me with a team of corporate attorneys. He placed a copy of the divorce agreement Marcus had forced me to sign onto my lap.
"He thinks this piece of paper guarantees his fortune," Arthur said, a dangerous smirk playing on his lips. "He believes he took everything you had. He doesn't realize that the townhouse, the seed money for his architectural firm, and the bank accounts were all funneled through shell corporations managed by the Sterling Family Trust."
I looked down at the forged signatures and misspelled names. For four years, I had hidden my heritage to prove to myself that I could be loved for who I was, not for the billions attached to my last name. Marcus had failed that test in the most horrific way imaginable.

"What do we do first, Grandfather?" I asked, my voice no longer shaking. A cold, protective fire burned in my chest for my son and daughter.
Arthur handed me a gold-plated pen—the real Sterling family crest embossed on the clip. "We don't just take back what is yours, Elena. We dismantle his entire world, brick by arrogant brick."
