Chapter 8 - The Race to the Vault

Panic set in. Richard knew exactly what that ring contained. If Clara had the ring, she had the key. And if she had the key, she knew about the Geneva Continental lockbox.
"We have to go to the bank. Now," Richard whispered to Eleanor, pulling her away from the crowd. "If she opens that vault, we are ruined. We go to prison for the rest of our lives."
"The gala..." Eleanor protested.
"Screw the gala!" Richard snapped, abandoning his public facade.
They rushed to their limousine, barking orders at their driver to speed toward the financial district. Richard dialed his offshore accounts, preparing to wire everything to the Cayman Islands if things went south.
What they didn't know was that Clara and Elias were standing on the balcony above, watching their limousine speed away into the night.
"They took the bait," Clara said, leaning against the stone balustrade.

Elias checked his watch. "They're heading straight to the bank to intercept you. But they don't realize the vault can only be opened with the key and the biometric scan of the primary account holder."
"Which is me," Clara finished, a cold smile touching her lips. "Let them wait in the lobby. We're going in through the roof."
