Chapter 15 - The Hit

It happened on a Tuesday, in broad daylight. Clara was leaving a charity luncheon, flanked by two of Elias’s heavily armed guards. She stepped toward her armored SUV when a black van screeched around the corner.

The doors slid open, and automatic gunfire erupted.

"Get down!" her lead guard shouted, tackling Clara behind the engine block of the SUV. The deafening roar of bullets shredded the side of the vehicle, shattering glass and ripping through metal.

Clara covered her ears, pressing her face against the concrete. She wasn't terrified like she had been at the Sterling estate; she was furious.

Elias's men returned fire with lethal precision, dropping two of the attackers instantly. The van, realizing it was outgunned, peeled away, leaving the street in chaos.

Elias arrived exactly four minutes later. He didn't speak. He walked straight to Clara, who was dusting glass off her designer suit, completely unharmed but vibrating with anger.

He checked her for injuries, his hands moving frantically over her arms and face. When he realized she was safe, the relief in his eyes was instantly replaced by a terrifying, cold wrath.

"Volkov," Elias said, his voice deadly quiet.

"Find him," Clara ordered, her voice equally cold. "And make it loud."
