Chapter 20 - The Final Meeting

The night of the gala, the Willow Creek estate looked completely unrecognizable. The dark, brooding energy was gone, replaced by bright lights, soft music, and hundreds of guests celebrating a beautiful cause.

Elise stood near the grand staircase, adjusting a massive floral display of white lilies. She wore a simple, elegant emerald-green evening dress.

"The flowers are breathtaking, Elise."

Elise turned around. Damien stood a few feet away. He looked entirely different. He was deeply tanned, his hair slightly longer, wearing a modest suit rather than a flashy tuxedo. His eyes, once hardened by venom, were soft, kind, and incredibly gentle.

"Hello, Damien," Elise said, offering a small, genuine smile. "It's good to see you."

"It's good to see you too," he replied, stepping closer, though keeping a respectful distance. "My mother was thrilled when she heard your firm took the contract. She missed you."

"I missed her too. This place... what you all have done with it. It’s a wonderful legacy for Maya."

"It is," Damien nodded. He looked at her, truly seeing the strong, independent woman she had become. There was no lingering bitterness, no desperate pleas to get her back. Just a profound mutual respect for the fire they had both survived.

"Are you happy, Elise?" he asked softly.

"I am," she replied, her eyes shining with undeniable truth. "Are you?"

Damien looked around the room, at his parents laughing with guests, at the beautiful flowers Elise had designed, and finally back at her. "Getting there. One day at a time."

They stood in comfortable silence for a moment. Then, Damien offered a polite nod, turning to join his parents. Elise watched him go, feeling a deep, profound sense of peace wash over her. The past was finally laid to rest, and the future was entirely hers to bloom.
