Chapter 18 - Rebuilding from the Ashes
Two years passed.
The Willow Creek estate, once the site of such horror, had been transformed. Arthur and Martha had decided they couldn't live with the dark memories embedded in the walls. Instead of selling it to a stranger, they converted the massive property into "Maya’s House," a state-funded rehabilitation and grief counseling center for families who had lost children to tragic accidents.
Martha threw herself into the foundation's work. It gave her a renewed sense of purpose. She spent her days organizing support groups and charity galas, ensuring that her daughter's name was synonymous with healing, rather than tragedy.
Damien had spent the last two years volunteering in South America, helping build sustainable housing for impoverished communities. The physical labor and the distance from his former wealthy, insulated life had grounded him. He was no longer the vengeful, cold man who had trapped his bride in a room. He was quiet, humble, and entirely focused on helping others.
One afternoon, Martha called him on a satellite phone.
