Chapter 12 - A Father's Wrath

"Get away from her!" Arthur roared, swinging the iron poker. It struck Thomas in the ribs with a sickening crack.
Thomas howled in pain, dropping the syringe and collapsing to the floor. Elise scrambled off the bed, running straight into Martha’s arms. The older woman held her tightly, shielding her body as Arthur stood over his brother, chest heaving with rage.
"What in God's name are you doing, Thomas?!" Arthur demanded, raising the poker again.
Thomas coughed, clutching his side, his face twisting into an ugly, desperate sneer. "I was fixing the problem! She's a liability, Arthur! She killed Maya!"
"That's a lie!" Damien’s voice boomed like thunder as he burst into the room. He looked disheveled, wild-eyed, and holding a thick folder of evidence.
Damien marched up to Thomas and kicked him hard in the chest, sending his uncle sprawling flat on his back. "She didn't kill Maya. Chloe did. And you were sitting right next to her when it happened!"
Arthur froze, the iron poker lowering slowly. "What are you saying, Damien?"

"Marcus enhanced the traffic footage," Damien said, his voice trembling with homicidal fury. He tossed the printed photos onto his uncle’s chest. "Thomas was in the passenger seat. He helped cover up Maya's death to protect his trust fund. He paid Chloe off, and when Elise got caught in the crossfire, he let me destroy my own wife to keep his secret safe."
Martha let out a guttural sob, collapsing to her knees as the truth of her daughter's death finally came to light.
