Chapter 6 - The Secret Letter

Later that evening, while sorting through Eleanor’s personal belongings, I found a small velvet box hidden in her desk.
Inside was a vintage emerald ring and a handwritten letter addressed strictly to me.
My hands shook slightly as I broke the wax seal and unfolded the thick, cream-colored parchment.
“My dearest Elena,” the letter began, written in Eleanor’s elegant, sweeping cursive.
“If you are reading this, I am gone, and the storm I tried to shield you from has arrived.”
She went on to explain that she had known about Julian’s affair for nearly a year.
Instead of confronting him, she had quietly hired private investigators to watch his every move and audit his businesses.
“Julian is exactly like his father—greedy, reckless, and entirely devoid of loyalty,” she wrote.
“I could not let him destroy the legacy I built, nor could I let him discard you like trash.”
The last paragraph of the letter contained a bombshell that made my heart race with vindictive glee.
Eleanor had enclosed the contact information for a whistleblower inside Julian’s real estate company.
This man had definitive proof that Julian had committed massive tax fraud to keep his failing business afloat.
“Use this, my dear girl. Do not show mercy, because he will never show it to you,” the letter concluded.
I pressed the paper to my chest, a tear escaping my eye, mourning the only mother I had known.

She had given me the ultimate weapon from beyond the grave, ensuring my total victory.
I picked up my phone and dialed the number at the bottom of the page, ready to start the final war.
