Chapter 13 - Chloe’s Betrayal

While Julian was busy destroying himself in court, his personal life was rapidly imploding.
I received an unexpected, frantic text message late on a Sunday night from an unknown number.
“I need to talk to you. Alone. It’s Chloe.”
My first instinct was to ignore it, but my curiosity won out, and I agreed to meet her at a quiet, dimly lit bar.
When she arrived, she looked completely different from the smug mistress who had walked into my home months ago.
Her designer clothes looked slightly rumpled, she had dark circles under her eyes, and the arrogance was entirely gone.
“He’s losing everything, isn't he?” she asked, her voice shaking as she ordered a double vodka.
“Yes, Chloe, he is completely ruined,” I replied calmly, sipping my tea.
She broke down in tears, burying her face in her hands.
“He screams all the time, he drinks constantly, and the bank is foreclosing on his condo next week,” she sobbed.
Then, she looked up at me with a desperate, pleading expression that made my stomach turn.
“I have recordings, Elena. Recordings of him admitting to forging signatures on loan documents.”
I raised an eyebrow, genuinely surprised by her cunning instinct for self-preservation.
“I will give them to you to use in court, but you have to pay me,” she demanded, her voice hardening.

“I want one million dollars, and I’ll take the baby and disappear from both of your lives forever.”
I stared at the woman who had helped destroy my marriage, marveling at the utter lack of loyalty among thieves.
