Chapter 2 - Changing the Locks

The ride back to the Manhattan penthouse felt entirely different now that I was a billionaire in my own right.

I didn't just have money; I had power, the one thing Julian respected and feared above all else.

As soon as my driver pulled up to the building, I made my first executive decision.

I called the building manager and ordered him to deactivate Julian’s keycards and biometric access immediately.

“But Mrs. Vance, it’s his primary residence,” the manager stammered over the phone.

“The lease is under Vance Enterprises, which is a subsidiary of Vance Global Shipping,” I reminded him smoothly.

“I am now the controlling shareholder, which means I own the penthouse.”

By the time I reached the top floor, the building staff had already changed the security codes.

I walked into the massive glass-walled apartment and immediately started packing up his expensive suits and watches.

I didn't fold them neatly; I threw his designer clothes into heavy black trash bags like garbage.

When I reached the oversized cashmere sweater that Chloe had worn to taunt me, I took a pair of scissors to it.

Two hours later, my phone started vibrating relentlessly with Julian’s name flashing on the screen.

I ignored the first ten calls, pouring myself a glass of vintage red wine and watching the city lights flicker.

On the eleventh call, I finally swiped to answer, bringing the phone to my ear without saying a word.

“Elena, you vindictive crazy woman, let me up right now!” he screamed into the receiver.

“The security guards are telling me I don't live here anymore!”

I took a slow sip of my wine, savoring the rich, dark flavor before replying.

“You wanted to walk away with three million and the house, Julian,” I purred into the phone.

“Consider the terms renegotiated; you get nothing, and you don't live here anymore.”

I hung up before he could respond, blocking his number with a satisfied smile.
